Worth noting in the 2 and 3 speeder trike world, one puts a slip joint in non-frame exhausts to allow it to vibrate and not break. Probably not something one can do with a catalyst system, and one would have to do other things. Vibration from big V twins is nothing new.

There is a flexible mesh like joint section on the 5 speeder after the cat and before the main joint for the baffles. I took my exhaust off last night to play around with it ( like you do ) , as was surprised how flexible this joint is. I am sure it would absorb the majority of vibrations coming back from the engine.
I wonder if this is intended to do what the slip joint you mention does.
I am lucky enough not to have had an exhaust break on me yet so dont know where these breakages typically happen ?. Any movement aft of this flex joint would largely be from the body I think.

The Brooklands exhaust is much heavier than standard and also anchored in a different way. I was told that since my problems they have thickened the metal from 1.2 to 2.0mm. I'd like to know what Mario has on his car.

Hi David, just a quick post to tell you that, according to MMC, my car was fitted - by mistake (?!) - with Mk1 exhausts. The left one lasted 2 days and approximately 500 kms. MMC sent Mk2 exhausts to Williams because my route back from Ireland would take me to Bristol.. I had both exhausts replaced (visually they look identical). And did only 150 kms since. I guess tomorrow and friday, after I've taken the car some 600 kms further, we both will know if the Mk2 Brooklands exhausts are up to the job that's required from them. Don't worry I won't hold back any information, good or bad.

Thanks Mario. I find it very surprising that such an 'error' was made on your car. I'm going to see my car being built in December and I will take my Verniers with me.

My Mk1 exhaust snapped off - first weld past the mesh and where the exhaust heat shield meets the pipe:((

Both were replaced with 1.5mm thick Mk2 versions (as opposed to 1mm)BTW the new exhausts had a plate stamp stating 1.5mm.

Interestingly since I replaceed silencers with the new versions ( mine went in same place as yours) I have not had one bobbin split. And we're talking over 5000 mls

The journey has ended successfuly, 2000 kms after leaving Malvern my M3W has reached its new home. No new cracks, no relevant issues.

As soon as I get hold of a computer I'll share the journey's notes.
