Recently one of my wheel centres detached after some scurrying about the track at the Grampian Transport Museum. A helpful soul saw it happen and I was able to retrieve it.

It will not now stay in place, there appears to be nothing in the wheel for it to grip. The centre (plastic) appears to be whole and undamaged.

How are they kept in place?

Yes, alloy wheels.

Ian, this seems to be a question that has stumped the owners on this site.

My advice would be to speak with the factory or ask the question of MSCC or on GoMog.

Logically you would think there would be some sort of clip to keep the cover in place but if you can't see one, or evidence of where one has broken off, I don't know what else to suggest.

not sure what age car/wheels you have, if the centre cap has the printed badge on it then they are just a tight fit in the centre, if it's the newer one fitted to the roadster with wings moulded in then there are 2 tabs with undercuts that clip into the wheel

Sorry, been away for a while.

My car is a 92 Plus 8 and the centres seem to have plastic lugs but there is nothing for them to grip on - perhaps and insert came out with the centre and has been lost?

I have managed to re-fit the centre by binding it with sticky plastic tape and inserting it with pressure, how long it will stay is anybodies guess.

I'm quite sure that you have lost nothing, the caps fitted to your age of car were only ever a tight push fit. a bit bodgy but the binding with tape is prob the best solution
