One of my favourite comedy actors is in hospital having suffered a mild stroke. In his 90s but still, get well soon.

A great and 'ordinary' man. They did some filming in the village where I used to live in Hampshire, he was a very pleasant chap and did talk to the villagers, I wish him well

I do hope he makes a good recovery - he's such a legend; I love the comedies of that period.

As for The Fast lady - ages since I last saw it, but what a host of old favourites; Leslie himself, James Robertson Justice, Stanley Baxter, Julie Christie.

£475 for an old Bentley would probably have seemed quite a decent sale price for the early 60's. My dad bought a Rolls Royce 20hp for £25 in 1963, one of his friends bought a Bugatti for £150 at about the same time. Sigh.

Indeed! The car itself came up for sale at Fiskens in 2010 and I calculated back then that £475 in 1961 equated to £7882, quite a decent price for a second-hand car. Fiskens sold it for £550,000 so nevertheless a good investment, and I reckon it would get a fair bit more today.

The Fast Lady is worth getting on DVD. It contains a dream sequence in which Stanley Baxter races the Bentley at Silverstone against Graham Hill and John Surtees, with Raymond Baxter commentating - a scene which they used to cut for the TV showings (remember when TV used to show films like this?!)

Anyway, get well soon Leslie.
