There I was minding my own business on the taxi slip at an live RAF base when they said I should think about moving - something to do with the jet wash from the passing jets pebble dashing the car with stones - RAF think they own the place - Oh yes they do  Reason for this thread it reminded me to let you know about the new 3m spray on stone chip defender . I masked Cruella up at the front and set to it per the instructions - It says orange peel is to be expected if applied correctly but dont worry it will settle - After 2 hours it was horrible - after 3hrs PERFECT ! Just having had all the stone chips removed from my front end this sounds like a great solution to keep it looking new.

Just spotted this thread!
I was looking at spray on protector a few months ago and asked about it on Pistonheads detailing thread.
Several negative comments in replies so I shied away.
Having read your post my interest has been reawakened.
I have a 2002 Plus8 and hence a complex curved front(Oooooerrr matron!) making the normal film not so easy to apply.
If you are that happy with it then it's a possibility.
How has it performed since application?
Still ok?

Be careful around those military airfields.
We frequently dump fuel from altitude and eventually it settles.
Some jet fuel (here in the states at least) contains hydrazine--known to cause etching on clear coat

Certainly seems a lot cheaper than the film MMC offer, almost £700 for the Plus 8.

The 3M video showing how to apply is quite good, with good views of what to look for in sprayed still wet finish. The end result does look impressive.
I am guessing the people who have not liked it could have made errors in their prep/ application. Even have a vested interest in the films(!).
At the cost for spray then if it does go wrong then it looks easy to peel off so no big ££££ lost.
Maybe a test on the my tin top front bumper might convince me.
Wash/clay/polish/wax/spray.
Trouble is I need a sunny day to cure it!
