Hi all, I'm on the look out for my first Morgan and have decided that a +4 would suit my needs and pocket. I have looked at a few now and been surprised by the amount of bodywork corrosion, including reasonably recent cars (i.e. 2010). Is this normal with Morgan ownership, if so, how can it be prevented.
Thanks for the help. Nick

I might have been lucky - fourth Morgan and no corrosion!
Keep looking Nick - you will find a good example, particularly with Main Dealers.
Good Luck.

Nick,
A good +4 is an excellent starting point!
But corrosion of any form shouldn't be an issue on anything after they introduced stainless steel bulkheads, rot proofed the ash coachwork replaced steel wings with thermoformed alloy and galvanised the chassis. these changes didn't arrive together but were in place by about 1998 - 1999.
Since then there have been detail improvements, but a 2010 car should be close to perfect, fully undersealed and as the exhaust is now stainless there isn't anything to corrode. Yes there may be a bit of surface rust on the suspension bits, brake drums, especially if it hasn't been used much.
Go to Morgan dealers and have a look at the cars they offer. Don't buy privately unless you are confident you knw as much as about a Morgan as the seller!
Good luck!

Nick, I agree with Peter. Allon White have an open Sat where you might see a few different cars

Hi Nick, welcome to the forum. I am surprised to hear of a 2010 example with corrosion, walk away, move on the the next one.

thanks for the responses, in fact I've visited Allon White where I test drove a 2006 +4 and I'm still trying to decide if it's the correct car for me. They also have a supercharged 2005 +4 and although I haven't driven this car, it's very tempting, although on the other hand I'm not convinced buying a highly modified example is a good idea.
thanks again Nick

thanks again Nick When buying a car that is modified for performance it can make a big difference on insurance, statement of the obvious really but when I was looking I talked it through with the insurers and came to the conclusion that unmodified made it easier for me to justify the costs to myself good luck with your search and enjoy the experience Pete

+1 on the Roadster.
As well as Allon white cast your net a bit further. Rutter isn't far away at Sawbridgeworth and there is always RT near Reading
