Wednesday: Throttle return guide snapped. (new cooling kit version) eek
Friday: Rectifier failure. That one lasted 3500 miles sick
Saturday: Cam belt failure. That lasted 6900 miles frown
Saturday: Wish bone bent out of shape. (a pot hole, but not a cavern) mad
Sunday: Right exhaust failure on way back from Switzerland near Nancy. evil Taxi to town. Rental car to Calais. Foot passenger to Dover. Rental car to Malvern. Pick up the parts. Rental car to Dover. foot passenger to Calais. Rental car to Nancy. Taxi to garage. I fit the parts. 2 hours later i am bypassing Reims.
The left exhaust cracks open. Not in the normal place, this time One of the captive nuts which hold the shield to the silencer pops out along the weld line. mad2
now there is a half inch hole in the side of my silencer. it sounds like a helicopter.
Fortunately i have exhaust gum and pack it in. no matter how bad the noise is i am not repeating the trip to Malvern in rental cars.

So today i again call Malvern.
can i get an exhaust?

no one available from parts or to tell me about about parts or if they can lower the price of the 300 pound exhaust (it is the second in a week).
they will get someone to call you back. coffee

an hour goes by and no call confused2

so i go there in person. its only an hours drive. somestick

no one available to tell me if they can lower the price of the 300 pound exhaust. Sorry the managers are all out today. party

me: Ok well i can take the part i thought. notworthy

junior manager: no, sorry we have no left exhausts in stock. banghead

me:ok, when will you have some available.

junior manager: i dont know. exting

me: what time frame are we talking about? 1 week or a month/

junior manager: sorry i dont know, we normally expect to work on a parts order over a 2-4 week time frame. mad2

The three wheelers seem to be variable in their reliability, to say the least, but whilst Morgan should replace faulty exhausts if you have had enough you may want to investigate Infinity exhausts who will make an exhaust system for you and provide a lifetime guarantee, to the original purchaser.

Shocking, such a service from carbuilders manager! First lesson in school: who pays the money? Your chef or customers?
Charles, next year you will travel to switzeland with ?????
I think, Malvern is like a japanese carbuilder- they won't communicate with their custumers, paper and statistics are bible for all directors.....

Thanks andrew. I will take mog there tomorrow and see what they can do. It was implied to me quite strongly today that if I want thicker pipes. (Ie ones that are fit for purpose) I pay.
Out of principle I want to let anotber company have a go.

Not good at all. If that is the standard of service in the UK it will be interesting to see how we go if the 3W gets down here.

Morgan is at great risk if they don't change completely the way they deal with problems. The public's perception has great inertia, so they may not be suffering much now, but they will. And to turn things around the same inertia applies.

Would I buy a second Morgan after my first? Without blinking, even if some worrying news were afloat (that made me anyway postpone my order until 2014).

Will I buy a third?

I remember a canadian I met and a story he told me about his own father, a lover of English cars all his life. The last was a brand new Jaguar E. The car gave him many problems in the early days of its existence, and my friends father wrote to Jaguar about it, telling how it just "couldn't be". Their reply was apparently a polite version of "Deal with it". He dealt, by selling the car and by professing to never again buy a car made in the UK. And he kept his word until he passed away, says my friend.

Charles, the thicker pipes have also failed on some cars.

Better to get someone who knows what they're doing to sort it out.

I wonder if the immense weight of the heat shields is partly to blame. They should be independently mounted to the car, rather than to the exhaust.

Charles,

If I was you, after all this , I would buy matches.

It's really shocking to read !

And what I also heard from the Swiss importer they also need to wait for permission to do a guaranty repair and need to beg for parts which they need for the repair.

It's amazing that a company with this behavior could survive 100 years !
Or had the previous management a different behavior ?

I can't check now, but I'm 99% certain that in the Brooklands variant the heat shields are independently mounted to the car.
