Having lived most my life in Africa and 10 years in Botswana I find the year round winter in the UK hard on the back of my head and ears when driving especially as I prefer to only wear a baseball cap as a sun visor. In any event my better half does not enjoy a gale around her head that much so I investigated purchasing a wind trimmer. Because of the price for a 4 seater trimmer (about £280?) I decided to make one up and test it befor I buy. I constructed a trimmer using copper tubing (15mm) and screen material from Allon White.
I even fitted a high level lCD brake light to the trimmer. The trimmer clamps into the rear side screen brackets behind the seats.
It works a treat and has become a permanent fixture. You can hear yourself think and talk at 70 miles per hour!
It may not be as elegant as the professional trimmer but it suits my 87 4/4 4 seater which incidently I have upgraded with a 1920cc cvh motor (stage one) from Specialised Engineering in london. Car now goes like a dream.
Cheers

hallo 4/4 4 seater 1987 it's 4/4 4 seater 1989 here.

I have thought of doing the same. does your windtrimmer fit if you have the tonneau covering the rear seats?

p.s. Is your 1920cc the pinto version from the states?
How long did they need the car?

My only regret is not having a Morgan in Kenya. I still miss going on Safari & must plan one soon.

4/4 4 87 we came back from the Kenyan summer to Holland (Den Haag) in winter. It was -25 c for 4 weeks with rain which froze on the streets & the "Elf Statten Tocht" where the canals freeze & people skate between 11 towns being organised.

I know the feeling Africa thins the blood & took a long time to acclimatise.I found though that red wine helps thicken the blood!!

thumbs wine

Hello A10GE
I have made it so that the tonneau still fits underneath and is held up against the bottom of the windstop (trimmer) by a bungee cord. I will post some pictures as soon as I figure out how to do so.
The engine blocks are imported from the States by Specialised Engines Ltd who do a full refit- clutch, distributor, water pump oil pump and carb etc
I delivered the car on a Saturday and picked it up the following Saturday.(I was also given a set of photographs of each stage of the engine build.) You may be interested in having a look at their web site. http://www.specialisedengines.co.uk/index.html
I am not sure whether it is the Pinto block as they refer to as the American long block motor which was a specially developed CVH motor for the American market at the time.

Hi John+4.
I agree and it would be so much better if we could drive in permanent sunshine!. In Botswana the temp in summer averages 38 to 40 deg C. A bit too hot.

Hallo 4/4 4 87.

I would be very interested in seeing pictures. Like you have never figured out how to post pictures as an attachement etc. i would also like to use a picture of my car as my signiture, but I do not have an URL to house it.

Perhaps you could send off-line or via MogTalk. Where do you live?

I have offern looked at specialiseengines and I got very good reports back from another 4/4 owner earlier this year. I think we are talking of the same engine.
