Apologies Philip I thought Deano had answered that question, yes it stands for rear main seal.
Where do the oil pipes connect with the block? is it possible that the leak from that would be in the bell housing?

Chris, sorry since Deano put a ? mark, I was awaiting confirmation.
The two oils pipes from the filter enter the block below the exhaust manifold on left bank (view from inside car), and I would say around cylinder no.2.
I cannot conceive how a leak from these O rings would appear to come from RMS area, so almost certainly you have a different problem. The leak, when I had it on my car, was clearly from the left bank area.

Hmm ok so if it did turn out to be the RMS then can the engine & box be split without removal?

If it is the RMS then I am sorry to say its either an engine out or if you have a decent ramp, a gearbox out job.
I have to say though that in my experience RMS do not fail on modern engines.

I'm doubting the RMS too but what else could it be given the location? Upper oil pan perhaps?

Get it on a garage ramp and have an expert take a really close look would be my approach.

Deano's suggestion is a good one. My car will be up on my four poster this week with bottom off (starter motor change). Any chance you could identify where oil is dripping down and I might be able to come up with couple of places from which oil leaking? Like Deano, I think RMS unlikely. Equally doubt it's seal on main bearing entry into gearbox.
Have you checked that fluid on ground is indeed engine oil and not a different fluid?

As per the photo's I attached the oil is leaking from the bell housing where the engine meets the gearbox,I have checked the fluid and it does appear to be the engine oil. I will check again to be 100% sure.
