Unfortunately this reflects badly on Morgan's half-arsed system of QA where responsibility for QA is largely left up to the worker on the factory floor.

The fact that thin wall exhaust pipes and Suplex shocks that touch the header pipes were fitted to Mario's car when both items had already been superseded is disgraceful. Any decent PDA should have had the shocks replaced at least and in any case both the shocks and the thin walled exhaust should have been removed from stock the moment replacements became available. Since the problem with the shocks seems to concern all current production all those in the store should have been automatically modified and any new shocks ordered should be supplied in the correct version.

One can only hope that the powers that be at Morgan wake up and introduce a proper QA system and insist that it be supported by all department managers.

Well said, sad but obviously true, Peter.

I'm not personally affected but I feel sympathetic to all sufferes. I wish and hope that all issues will get sorted, not only the mechacinal issues but also the QA. Everyone will feel very happy when MMC succeed in their "Elk-Test".

A fouling suspension condition really is a terrible quality failure, but what makes it worse is knowing you are shipping cars that are faulty.

I really think they don't care .

The company seriously let Mario down on the initial delivery , you would think they would then double check everything .....but the car he got has already got through 2 exhaust systems , how can they hand over a car with the shocks like this ?

With me being on the wrong end of this particular stick I feel you guys will consider what I'm going to write as "balanced".

I think they care. But I think there are some very VERY serious but also unsuspected problems behind the factories walls and gates.

Take Mark Ledington as an example. I really can't fault him for anything else than the license plates delay. And he took the blame for it, in a very honest way. And I do think he was really relieved that day when I got the car from him. And he had some nice gestures towards me in that noment. Even if they are economically meaningless, like the offering of the leather helmets and all the help given towards my wife's impossible luggage requirements.

Now, I did warn him, weeks before picking the car, about the Suplex clearance problem (I even tried to back out of the Suplex order, but they were already fitted to the car so it was too litle to late for that). I sent him pictures I got here (from Calum, maybe? Don't remember, but there's a thread about it), I asked for the clearance issue to be thoroughly checked and whatever measures needed to prevent it should be taken, and I can only suppose he forwarded my concerns to whomever was responsible.

I didn't mention the exhausts in my numerous emails before picking the car, but then again I never thought that after David's very public issue that problem could still remain unsolved.

Then, it all went wrong. Both in the Suplex and the exhausts front. But still I receive contradictory signs. You guys want to know the last example? It's almost ridiculous, but it's fresh from today: The third set of exhausts arrived already, my dealer called. Even I was surprised because although the issue was reported to warranty one month ago, I had to reach out to Mark Ledington once again two weeks past with no news. He replied he was going to look into what had happened and bingo the exhausts are here.

But ... with them came the invoice. LOL. My dealer said "not to worry, I'll talk to them it's obviously a mistake since these exhausts will be replaced under warranty".

So, what to make of all this? Either Mark Ledington is an actor capable of oscar-winning performances, or indeed, both above, below and next door to him either people aren't working s they should, or information isn't just being passed on. It's as if MMC was working like a headless chicken (portuguese saying, hope you understand). The body keeps moving, but there's no harmony, no connection between the parts it's composed of. And this gets us to the top level of management. One that I think is seriously failing to address the main issues. I'm not judging (yet), but will I blame the bloke that fitted the exhausts and got them from the wrong shelf? Will I blame the bloke that left them ON that shelf although they were not to be fitted to new cars? Or will I blame the bloke that fitted the Suplex suspension, for not realizing, once the car is on the floor, that there's a clearance problem? Or even for not knowing that this problem is already KNOWN OUT THERE ON THE INTERNET and being discussed by unsatisfied customers?

I won't blame those guys, no. Either they are not competent enough to do what they are doing, and that's for their own immediate bosses to find out and tell them "do your job properly or quit it altogether, you are harming Morgan"
...
or their bosses, for some reason I can't explain, don't know the product, don't know the problems, simply are too busy with something else or (and this is what I fear most) they think MMC is above such problems because it's a unique brand that can do wrong and still sell. If true, it's a dangerous path they're taking.

I do think Mark Ledington, being in touch with the people that buy the cars, and being in the hot seat in the months immediately after a buy, knows more about what's really happening than probably the more "opaque" and less exposed heads of other departments.

Then again I may be totally wrong and it is sales that is to blame for all these puzzling events. But the flak they're getting (including from me) makes me doubt it.

Btw, one month on and I'm still waiting for news on the Suplex issue. Not sure who to blame, if it's Aero Racing or Warranty, or whatever. I guess anotyher email to the only guy that replies to me (M.L.) is probably due. Oh well ...

Didn't Williams fit the first set of replacement exhausts?

As they didn't seem to notice or mention the Suplex clearance issue is it something which occurs after a bedding in period?

Looks like the clearance issue was there at the factory , have a look at Jay's pic on Page 5 ......

Williams did fit the replacement exhausts but they were supplied by the factory .

The clearance issue is present from the start, although usually, with the car standing still and leveled, the exhaust and the shock are still a couple of milimeters apart. I'll quote myself on the last "chapter" of my travelogue (original full post in page 13 of this thread)

I’m still holding judgement, because I don’t know if there are adjustments I may do to the car (ride height? placement of the exhaust headers?) , but “as is”, the Suplex shocks don’t fit the M3W.

If the road is very smooth there’s no problem. If it isn’t I only need to press the clutch and have the engine in idle to be able to hear the “tink, tink, tink” of the exhausts rubbing or hitting the springs.

I wonder if a major bump (or hole in the road), hit under the wrong circumstances, won’t cause an immediate and fatal collapse of the exhaust headers.

And that, of course, cannot be. I wonder what kind of engineers approved the use of these shocks into this car, I wonder what kind of testers missed the simple fact that they hit the exhausts, I wonder many things that I simply cannot understand.

But I know this (as does Jay, because it was an logistical effort to do this and he was there). I specifically asked to bring with me the stock suspension of the car (paid for it anyway, why not?) and if I come to the conclusion that the Suplex shocks are just “too fat” to fit the car, then I’ll take them off and hand them back to Morgan.

To be honest, I think any prospective buyer of a M3W should stay away from this option, and indeed Morgan should stop selling it.

Here a couple of pictures that help understanding this “clearance” issue.

The issue was also very present at Williams. Check the picture of my car in their stand, after servicing (posted in the same page 13)

Before the car was serviced I asked them to have a look and do whatever possible to keep the headers from hitting the shocks, but when I picked the car Mike told me they checked and that nothing could be done without either changing the shape of the headers or by changing the headers themselves with new, different ones.

Now I know better and apparently MMC solved this not by changing the headers but by asking Suplex to build differently shaped shocks.

In short, what I understand they did was a "copy" of the shape of the Spax default shocks. Look at the "comparative" picture Calum took and shared

Picture is in his excellent and very informative post here:

Just to add - I suspect the headers are now shaped with a slight bending downwards to avoid "grilling" the turn signals. Of course, it's still safe to do it if you have the default spax, someone probably forgot that Morgan was also advertising and selling the "Suplex Suspension Kit" ...

The more intelligent solution might have been to move the indicators (turn signals).
