My 2002 +8 was heavy, not helped by my need to fit a 13" steering wheel to get my legs and girth in! Once I changed the king pin bushes from Devol to Phosphor Bronze and also a Mulfab roller bearing kit the steering was light and a joy to drive, very fast action and once above parking speed was light and gave great feedback. Not as light as the current car (2008 +4)but close.

I found my 1993 Plus 8 with alloys, a bit heavy steering when going slow, however, when I rebuilt my front suspension last January, I fitted the steering bearing races, which made it much lighter, but still with plenty of feed back. I highly recommend them.

My 2002 Plus 8 is light enough when on the move but heavy when parking.
It's got damper blades not bearing set-up.
I don't have any problems with it but will upgrade to bearings when kingpins need changing.
My 1993 4/4 was the same essentially regarding weight of steering with a steering box but nimbler on bends as it had narrower tyres. It was fun keeping up with plus 8's on winding roads!

Excellent read. I am looking at 2000 - 2004 Plus8's as my introduction to Morgan's. I am currently on "Welcome Forum" and: Why buy a Morgan.
I have to say I am feeling more +ve about Morgan's after this thread - thanks

Perranwell Morgan (Cornwall) are showing a lovely red 2001 +8. Low mileage as well.

I guess I can offer a thought. Although I don't have a car that new, I think the steering feel on the Morgan is 'specific to the car'. First off, the Plus 8 is heavier than my 4/4 and the steering is also a bit heavier. This was true of the 71 Plus 8 with the steering box as well.

Now on the two identical Plus 8s, 1985 and 1986, both with rack and pinion steering. They are surprisingly different with the 1985 having a lighter feel than the 1986.

So that being said, find a car and drive it. Find another and drive it. You will feel the differences.

Also, as others have said, try a Roadster. Good power and feel. I do know that there are after market power steering kits for this car. Not sure about the Plus 8s. Note: The power steering was added to a car driven only by a very petite woman.

Cheers and good hunting!
