I was out driving yesterday when there was a Big Bang from left side of car. I stopped and checked but saw nothing. Driving onwards the experience was horrible steering was awful brakes worked and off and the car had a habit of just pulling to the left.
I drove slowly home and jacked the car up. The left wheel now has about 2 inches of play. If I hold the bottom of the tired can push in and out about 2 inches. I see the brake disk also moves in and out with the wheel.
I'm assuming something with the hub has been damadged but has anyone any experience with this. What other issues could occur and mist importantly what kind of bill am I looking at

Hi, sounds serious, but hard to tell. David, what model is the car?? and pictures of the issue would be most helpful.

Sorry to hear of your failure David.
As Mark says a picture paints a thousand words - sounds like your suspension upright has maybe failed.
Hopefully someone in The Trade will have a better idea and respond on here.
I would try a pm to Chunky4/4 Racer from Williams on here as he repairs and tunes Morgans for a living.

Sorry to hear, this could have ended far more seriously with that much of play in the wheel suddenly...

it sounds as if a wheel bearing has collapsed. Once the wheel is removed you should be able to locate the problem.

it sounds as if a wheel bearing has collapsed. Once the wheel is removed you should be able to locate the problem. That's exactly what it sounds like. Happened to me once in a Capri.

Yep, wheel bearing collapse. If the stub axle had failed the car would not have been drivable.

If wheel bearing, then the cost will depend on whether the stub axle is damaged or not, form your description it sounds like a wheel bearing failure. If stub axle is damaged then it's a new one, involving king pin strip down, if this the case then it might be worth thinking of replacing both at the same time with hardened chrome and new bushes, depending on how many miles the current ones have done and cash of course. You also need to inspect the brake disk carefully for damage, scoring. If you are lucky then you might get away with just a wheel bearing, I would replace the other side at the same time, I think a pair are about £60-70.
