There is a guy in South Wales Matt Neill, he is expert on these engines, am in contact with him, am especially interested in the ECU tuning, I surely can't be the only person thinking that this engine doesn't run right, it vibrates too much and producs sod all power, he has been told by Morgan that you can't use an ECU tuned for a bike s&s bike engine due to startup codes or something like that. Matt has a blank ECU that can be played with, have offered my car as a test mule, I live in the Midlands, Is there anyone nearer who can help, he is on the Internet. Morgan are a closed shop, they don't want to allow any tuning, personally just getting the engine to run properly would be good.

Ironman, a properly mapped ECU would be my first route also especially if you fit a better air filter and straight through pipes.

considering all things, I think money would be better spent "adding lightness" compared to adding power. A number of things such as drivetrain/chassis would be hard to replaced, but a good portion of the body paneling are what make this such a porker. Lose poundage there and increase performance immediately along with lessening wear on components. Considering how little the S&S motor and the MX5 gearbox weigh, it should be easy to narrow down the portions where you could add lightness. Carbon Bonnet/Boot for starters?

Adding power will only add to the wear on components. Albeit, adding power is often the cheapest option from the gate. Though, the complications it can cause can result in it being far more expensive.

s&s won't sell you the system for the morgan 3 wheeler motor as morgan is the only customer of theirs that uses that specific motor. Morgan is and has been working directly with them on the power upgrades for the last year or so and the system is an extensive one that will be used for the 128" upgrade as it's more than swapping out the cylinder and pistons.

i think the price list that leaked months ago was premature and not final so i'd hold off on judgment until it's made official and actually offered as it currently isn't. it will be soon so just wait a bit. probably by end of year.

mark reeves has been punishing a 128" test mule for almost a year now with the centra and other upgrades and hasn't had any issues regarding the larger displacement. I was lucky to be able to sneak a ride in the test mule back in january and i must say it was the most frightening experience i've had in a long time. the car is an absolute animal. will be overkill for most owners but for those who are looking for something truly bonkers the 128" is it.

Just be patient and wait for the proper release of the upgrade as it's all too premature currently.

I don't know about anyone else, but part of the reason I bought my M3W was for the charm and feel of its components and styling. It may not be engineering perfection for the ultimate driving machine, but I don't really care. To me it looks the part and is easily the most fun car I have ever driven...even better than the +8 Speedster I had a test drive in a couple of weeks ago!

To fit carbon fibre parts in an effort to lighten weight and improve performance just seems ludicrous to me. IMHO you might as well have bought a 3 wheeled kit car as your M3W will have lost much of its charm

I just saw an advertisement for Stage 1-3 placed in the Northern California club publication By Morgan West. They are located in Southern CA in Santa Barbara. Morgan West is a large shop and has a pretty good website. Don't know if he has stock but might be worth a try if you are really interested

The kit isn't done yet but will be soon. No one has these or even the ability to add it to a car. Can't say much more as I've already said more than I should. Should be officially very soon. I'll keep you guys posted.

I can't believe such negativity towards power upgrades. Are most people on here, apart from Charles and Nippymog (who is seriously considering Stage 2), fully satisfied with the 80bhp offered by the stock motor? It does seem very strange when several people have modified their cars with various other 'upgrades' - some of which seem to offer dubious benefit at best

Certainly if you're going racing, speed costs money, and MMC has the upgrades, if you want to spend the money. Post warranty, I'm thinking more along the lines of Raphy (atlante). He switched to a carburetor, (no more ECU) electric ignition and different pipes. I think the current ECU and pipes 'strangle' the motor and make it run hot for the cats. If we can change the ECU and pipes ...
More HP ? Sure ! More TQ ? Sure !
I'd just like a little more 'flexibility', reliability and a cooler running motor. I'd like to fully exploit what I have, before considering cams, overbores, etc ...
Like Matty said 'But it is horses for courses I suppose'

thumbs cheers
