The most common question I hear is, "Did you build it?" The next most common is, "What year?" When I tell them, "No, I didn't build it" and "Brand new," they look at me like I'm lying.
I dress like a World War flying ace when I drive, espe cially in bad weather: leather jacket with a thick lining and Velcro closures, glove liners, balaclava, scarf,gauntlets, helmet, blanket for the legs. A little bit of rain or snow is no big deal.
The gas pedal fell off on the first day I owned it. I fixed it with hex keys, duct tape, and a coat hanger. No biggie.
I got stopped once for running a red light, and the cop didn't even ask for my license. He just wanted to know what in the hell I was driving.
I drive it in the snow. Even there, you don't get a break. Four-wheel cars cut two grooves through the snow. Nobody cuts a third line.
It's a very exotic car. But how many other exotics can be fixed by an average motorcycle mechanic?
You're lucky to get it past 35 or 40 mph in the city. You need pretty good road surfaces to break 60. On the highway, you have to be constantly on your guard; because the rear wheel is in the center, you can't avoid an obstacle without changing lanes.
A motorcyclist friend of mine says the Morgan has none of the upsides of a car and none of the upsides of a motorcycle.
