I want to move my interior mirror as it causes a blind spot on left handers. Does anyone know the best way to get off and will I be able to stick it back again lower down.

Because I wanted to learn how to fit the later screens I gave Shaun at Allon Whites a hand when I had a chipped screen changed in my 08 car. Shaun said they are a risk as sometimes the screen is damaged if your unlucky, he used a six inch length of wood, about 2"X1", held it as close to parallel to the glass as possible and gave it a sharp rap with a small hammer knocking the mounting block sideways. The residue from the adhesive pad was left on as we were changing the screen but I did ask and he said best scraped with a razor blade and then a solvent to finally clean up.

I tried dental floss first then resorted to very light gauge wire using a sawing motion to break the bond between the backing plate and the glass. It took a little effort to remove the residue of adhesive from the plate and glass. The mirror was then refitted lower down with Araldite.

That sounds a smarter way, that's how you remove PUR Bond windscreens.

I cleaned mine up, after it fell off, by using nail varnish remover - with acetone. I also used some very fine sand paper before that!

A kind soul on TM suggested re-fixing it with sticky strips available from Ford. I didn't use those as the auto parts supplier had a windscreen mirror glue kit that was easy to use. The kit instructions included a useful suggestion to mark the point where it was to be glued with a crayon - but on the outside.

I was warned not to use Araldite as it was likely to crack the screen when it flexed.

I should also say that I bought a much smaller stainless steel mirror to replace the whopping great blind spot that was supplied when new.

I initially had to re-stick mine a few times and it never really held that well.

Somebody suggested cleaning first with acetone and it's held ever since.

Have you already swapped the mirror for the smaller version from Librands?
If not, it halves the size of the mirror and still provides an excellent rear view. And it keeps the mirror high for those occasions when you have a case on the luggage rack.

Paul, from your post I guess the mirror unclips, I could just take it off and rely on the door mirrors for lane blatting and pop it on for motorways.
