Some (long ) time ago I was given a bottle of Talisker by a client and still have an inch or so left in the bottle. I'd always thought of it as lower quality because it was bottled at 8 years. That is until I saw this and now wish I'd never opened it.... https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-23675.aspx

There are some pricey tipples on that site. Judging by this one the previous two must be in the bargain bucket! https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-9391.aspx Not a problem for me as I gave up spirits in 2007 after my bypass! ~iw

Single malt prices continue to rise as the far east market demands more and more of the stuff. The usual rubbish (JW) may no longer be enough as tastes mature.
But it isn't just single malts that have seen a price rise. Bourbons and Ryes has also seen strong price growth over the last 2 years - primarily fuelled by a greater demand by bartenders pushing the boundaries of bourbon based cocktails - but also down to relatively poor Rye harvests.
Top end Bourbons (Colonel E.H. Taylor for example) have seen substantial rises - 18mths ago you could get a bottle for 80usd - currently retailing at £120 in WhiskeyExchange.

Yup. It's actually an untypical 18 year old for that distillery, and whilst I never got to the bottom of it, taste tells me it was a single cask bottling. Unfortunately I was not very flush then and could only afford half a case. Mog 99 also had a whisky but it wasn't a patch on that one - I've now drunk and given away all 12 bottles I had.

Was probably worth £Ks.

In July we were on a cruise with a port of call on Orkney at Kirkwall. The Highland Park distillery is there. A tour was a must do....how often can you get to Orkney?!!! In the shop there were bottles for sale...yes I did as I like Highland Park! The top of the range whiskey was well in excess of £1k, maybe even more - my memory can't recall. Penderyn in S Wales does some limited editions, one being £250 a bottle when I was there about 5 or 6 years ago, but obviously not available as a complimentary sample!

Highland Park is my favourite whiskey, since Brora closed.
I found some Brora for sale recently at "only" £750 a bottle. Somewhat out of my league!
But I find that I drink less and less, a bottle seems to last a long time. Indeed as I age my consumption falls.... A good thing given my car habit.
