I have a 1999 plus 8 and have a problem where the car loses power unexpectedly. It's as if there is a momentary fuel starvation or ignition cut out and it is normally possible to recover power by coming off the accelerator and dropping down a gear. My local garage (and a morgan dealer) have tried to identify the problem; we've checked and rechecked connections, gone through the fuel and ignition systems and had the ecu checked. the only thing we haven't done yet that my garage thinks may be a cause is the air flow meter. Has anyone had a similar problem or got any ideas that I may try? Thanks in advance.

Could be something really trivial like the blocked fuel filter? or dodgy ht leads?

Where are you based? My first port of call for Morgan problems is Keith @ BHM (Brands Hatch Morgans)- he has always been very helpful & usually right!

almost impossible to diagnose without seeing the car on fault, there may be a fault code stored in the ECU but you'll need to take it to a dealer to read it

Did have a similar problem with my 2000 year Range Rover, which I think had the same engine. They found it was the throttle potentiometer, which I think transmits the throttle position to the ECU. So when I came off the throttle it found itself again and off we went. Seem to recall was not an expensive item and was told they can get dirty and problematical. Might be worth a talk to a Range Rover specialist.

I had something similar with my Fiat barchetta.

In the end, it was only a bad contact at the connector of the air mass sensor. (Is that the same thing as the airflow meter?)

The corrective action was, to pull the connector and treat it with some contact spray. The symptom never appeared again after that treatment.

Many thanks for the thoughts and ideas and apologies for delay in responding (other things happening). Have tried the throttle potentiometer and am currently trying to get a 2nd hand air mass sensor/meter - apparently new ones are about £700! We think the connection is OK.
