So many good malts and so little time and money.

Wasn't Suntory by any chance, that's a smooth one budster [/quote]

I will have to check by sampling a few that smell like TCP rather oddly quite a few have this disposition, one other identifier of this great flavoured one was that it was really light in colour.

As you get a sampler in a medicine type bottle it soon disappeared without making a note of it.

If it fits my description it may well be Suntory.

Impressed that you can remember what you drank.
All my memories of nights out in Japan have an alcoholic haze. I do remember one Japanese colleague attempting "You Ain't Nothing But A Houndog" during a particularly raucous Karaoke session.
He later fell asleep face down on the bar!

Smells like TCP, a Islay Malt in all probability as peaty single malts do often smell that way.

Indeed. In particular Coal Ila has very pronounced iodine notes

Never had many nights ashore in Japan Simon.
But, ship needs stocks of beer "for the journey", so they tend to order what is most reasonably priced...

My little sister worked for a year as the assistant to the Missions to Seafarers chaplain in Yokohama right after she graduated. Very tough gig for a young western girl out there on her own. She was mainly involved in visiting ships and providing pastoral care to seafarers far from home, organizing events at the mission and football matches and so on, anything to keep the matelots out of the bars and brothels.

you are narrowing it down maybe as when asked by the assistant my preference it was peaty - still leaves a mass of them to sample, someone has to do it...
It was a very pale urine colour to assist the search.. innocent

p.s. Adnams Broadside 6.3% is 3 for £5-00 in JSS today.

There are a lot worse pints than this.

Currently denting the latest Duty Free offerings from No1 Daughters Californian business trip, luckily it's a monthly jaunt for a week or so. Glenlivet 12yr Single and a Glenlivet 15yr Single and they are nice, she is a good girl with taste.

Previous offerings include Glenfiddich Vintage Cask which is awaiting my next visit to my best pal on Shetland and he is of Viking stock from Fairisle originally. He worked for the BBC Eng OB units until he saw the error of his ways and joined us for twice the money and respect.
Hell of a man we went to a rather nice seafood restaurant on the Island one evening and managed to consume 15 Tiger Beers each not sure how but one was not too sharp next day and seemed to walk around a lot.

Enjoy your tipples whatever they may be and from wherever they may hail.
