Talk Morgan Forums Morgan Sports Cars Classic Morgans (pre-CX) Front number plate box

Do any of you good folks know whether the front number plate box off a recent "overrider" car will retrofit my '92 +8? I don't mind doing a bit of reshaping of the box, but to know that the mounting holes sort of line up would be very helpful.

I'm planning on going down the de-bumper route; assuming that the box fits, where do I get one from? I haven't seen any advertised, and searching eg the Rutter website doesn't turn up anything useful.

It should as it uses the mounting bolts for the radiator grill to attach it and then the number plate hides these. You obviously will need to remove the bumper brackets.

Thanks, Adrian - that's what I thought. I just wasn't sure whether there would be any notable differences in curvature of the lower grill shape, or holes on different centres. I'll see if I can locate one via the For sale/Wanted forum

I'd planned to remove all bumper brackets anyway - I just think the de-bumpered look is better (though I don't want to re-ignite any of the "naked or dressed?" debates, and get the Moderators reaching for the censor's red pencil!)

Go on re-ignite it I'll donate the box of matches my car doesn't have bumpers or over riders and it's the best looking car in the world there that should do it

For some reason those boxes are hard to come by. I think the LeMans62 cars had aluminium boxes, but after that they were plastic. You'll get one on factory order but expect ££££££££.
It may be cheaper to have one made from aluminium.

Keith - you are very bad lad - but I'm with you....the bumpers have to go!

Dave - thank you; it's curious that the boxes are hard to come by (and expensive), since one might think that they are a little vulnerable and thus need replacing on occasion. I feel something creative coming on!

I think the standard plastic box presents the front plate too high up. Why not drop some brackets down from the front grill lower mounting bolts. Make them up as a slight 'S' bend in side profile and the plate sits really neatly below the front grille on a no-bumper car.

All trad Morgan should have bumpers, otherwise people go and fit those silly front skirts and make it look like a girly car.
