That all makes very interesting reading but you need to detach the tests for COC from the static tests as they are achieved differently.

In section 4.2 it describes the static test conditions and equipment and without getting too technical these are the tests and equipment used to carry out roadside noise tests ( in the UK) on vehicles suspected of having either defective or non compliant exhaust systems. Currently in the Uk it is an offence to have a motor car up to 3,500 kg emitting exhaust noise greater than 82 db (A) or to fit an exhaust system that does not comply with the vehicle manufacturers specification. These tests are carried out at 50% of max power. My Morgan fitted with ( as far as I know) Factory standard exhaust on the 3 tests required logged at 92, 93, and 93 db (A). I'd be interested to know what the Sports Exhaust registers.

Much more smile
I had a moment of worry the other day. Going into our local major town we pass through a short tunnel and join a motorway (Superstrada) whilst still in the tunnel of the motorway before exiting beside the lake. The speed limit at that point rises from 40 on the slip to a usually ignored 70 kph. I love to really accelerate hard at that point just to hear the sounds of the exhaust echoing off the tunnel walls. You get the picture; it sounds like a plane taking off.

I saw some headlights coming down the fast lane and I accelerated hard on to the nearside lane and when I arrived at a very noisy 90 kph backed off a little and checked my mirrors. There was no sign of the other car so I turned my head, and there it was coming up beside me: a police car! I was sure I was going to get pulled up for excess noise and speed so I backed off to 70 but they kept going at 90. I let them get well ahead of me and turned off at the next exit. One of the things I love about Italy, even the cops are petrol heads.

mine isn't loud at all - very envious of sport exhaust notes

In fact after driving the hire Plus 4 4 Seaters from Morgan over the last few years mine is a damp squib in comparison

no exhaust roar or popping when decelerating

Might investigate either getting rid of the rear silencer or a new sports exhaust from Librands

It seems a shame to get rid of the system I've got because it is all shiny and in stainless steel

Stewart it could be that as it's a four seater you are sitting so far in front of the pipe you can't hear it innocent

Mine is a 2-seater but is very sedate and refined in the noise department. Must fix that!
