Lastly I remember using sacrificial anodes in my Triumph Herald in the 60's......they were called the doors! Nick I thought that the Herald was one big sacrificial body, the engine always survived!

But Richard, stainless bolts fitted through aluminium? Peter, you're right about the Herald. In the end my bonnet was held together with fablon! Sadly my next, a 1959 Sunbeam Rapier, wasn't much better....... Nick

But Richard, stainless bolts fitted through aluminium? I've not had cause to strip one down as yet so have no idea what precautionary measures the factory has taken if any, I don't envisage them fitting a ptfe sleeve over the threads somehow.... A good question for anyone visiting the factory.

I've only had pimples of corrosion when the garage was damp. Come the dehumidifier this doesn't happen.

The "white pimples" seem to be caused by salty water drying on a warm engine and starting corrosion as they dry. The as soon as moisture arrives the salt crystals pull it out of the air and corrosion re-starts.
ACF 50 and a dehumidifier both help.

Does ACF 50 not wash off? Seemingly not...getting it of the garage floor requires a solvent!
