Hello all.
Can anyone offer a good tip on how to remove the interior mirror back plate so that i can reposition it lower down. The standard position is smack bang in my line of sight! I have carefully tried a stanley blade in one corner but it didn't do a thing. (2001 4/4 for reference).

I guess it is bonded on with something. If superglue you can buy a glue remover.
Other glues will soften with heat or a solvent such as meths.

My mirror slides up and off a plate which is itself glued to the windscreen. Kind of a dovetail arrangement. Don't know if this helps with your need.

Kevin Try using a hair dryer, blowing heat towards the backplate should slowly melt the glue...

Just spoken to BHM and they tell me that getting the mirror off is near impossible - using a mallet is effective, but risks removing a layer of laminated glass.  Great care is advised

Mine came off very easily and cleanly using acetone (nail polish remover), carefully assisted with a razor blade.

I'm sure they have heard the "it's for my car!" excuse before.  The girl in my local medical supply store still looks at me strangely every time I drop in and get another box of surgical gloves... Oh, with the nail varnish remover, do read the warnings on the labels - acetone is nasty stuff.
