Peter - I would agree with all of that. Particularly, buying a newer one, M3Ws excepted as I think they need more "hands on tinkering", means that you've a greater chance of jumping in the car and go for a drive rather than just trying to get it started! https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl#q=morgan+won%27t+start+site:http:%2F%2Fwww.talkmorgan.com er, not quite.

Re the original post, I've owned a few of the cars that are often compared to new Morgans by journalists ie Porsche etc, but IMHO none even come close to the Morgan's fun factor. I bought a M3W a couple of years back and loved it so much (despite the issues I experienced eg exhaust shearing off) that I recently moved to a new Plus8. It has been much more reliable (has a roof for the wife!) and puts a smile on my face every time I take it out - I love it. I respect your views Mr Plato but I'll be sticking with Morgan thanks very much.

I smiled when I saw the tag line for the new Toyota Yaris - something about rediscovering the joy of driving .............. Yeah, the Yaris Hybrid... Fell out of my chair laughing at that one!!

As well as the Mog, I drive another car the majority of people just don't get.
The very characterful smart Roadster.
11 years on and still driving it.

11 years on and still driving it. It surely can't be more fun than the Toyota Yaris ? The Yaris is just fun, fun, fun, ... In fact it's more fun than Fun Funity Fun winner of the Fun making things fun of the year competition .......unless of course you are actually driving it .......on a road .... And not sticking bananas in the exhaust pipe

Judging from numerous threads on this forum I don't agree that modern technology has made Morgans any more reliable.
You must be a lot younger than me, because I can remember the early 60s when you expected to have to decarb an engine at 30k miles and at 60k it was a rebore. But then you were lucky if your car lasted 60k without the body rot killing it. Modern engines gearboxes and electrics make modern morgans way more reliable than their predecessors would have been, but our expectations have risen in line so that we expect nothing at all to go wrong and when it does ....... As well as the Mog, I drive another car the majority of people just don't get.

11 years on and still driving it. My wife has one of those and loves it to bits. True that most of it is an excellent small sports car and a sort of modern day spridget. But the gearbox ! What an abortion! Its been interesting for me as a non owner of a morgan to read the opinions expressed above. I can understand the original comments if they are applied to the trad. It is a sort of 1960s car with the benefit of some modern technology. A bit like the car equivalent of a modern Royal Enfield motorbike. And comparing it to a modern sports car is a bit like comparing the Enfield to a modern Honda. If thats the sort of car that floats your boat, go for it. The Aero is a different issue to my mind. Morgan intended it to be a modern sports car with all modern underpinnings, and judging by the press reports they didnt make a brilliant job of it. But I doubt very much whether the factory had the skills or equipment to make a better job - perhaps they should have gone to one of the consultancies to sort out the handling. Maybe even Lotus I have to say that I love the styling of it, but at that price and as a modern design I expect it to handle like a Porker. The reports say it doesnt. This is an enthusiasts website populated by Morgan enthusiasts so it seems likely that most if not all posters will view their Morgans through rose tinted glasses. Nothing wrong with that at all. Why buy a toy like a sports car if you arent in love with it. So comparing it to other makes of car is to you as pointless as me comparing my boat to other makes of boat. There simply isnt a comparable model.
