Hi all. Last night it was a lovely crisp, dry evening with stars a shining.. Took the roof panels off for the first time and took my daughter out for the first time too. A great memorable spin - what its all about!!

Was wondering what other Aero owners considered normal running temp?? As mentioned had the roof off with heater going great guns. My temp gauge (once warmed up) fluctuated between 95 when driving on open roads at a steady 59mph up to 110 when pottering in town which did seem a tad warm?? I could occasionally hear the fan cutting in thus lowering temp so guess that's operating correctly. Appreciate the BM 8 cylinder is known to run hotter than say the 6 but all the same whenever my temp gauge gets around the 100 I stay alert with it concentrating the mind!!

Not sure on accuracy regarding the actual readings as on our return I ran up the air con with temperature control on max cold and then the engine temperature lowered to 90?? how odd!

Oh yes - another first.. As we drove past some parked cars their alarms seemed to go off!...... As I said a great memorable drive out..

I understand that for any Aero based car with side exhausts setting off car Alarms is part of the fun.....

Although I am not personally familiar with the BMW 8 cylinder engine, my understanding is that coolant temperatures are now deliberately set much higher than in the past , in order to minimise emissions.

The early injection +8s were optimised at 85 Deg C, but later versions used 95 , and many modern tin top engines operate in the 110 to 120 range. This has entailed going to higher pressure systems of course.

As a general rule , if the water is not boiling and is not being pumped out , it is probably OK.

In my experience, that is pretty standard. When we've done Aero road trips, most seem to sit around 100-105 but 110 isn't uncommon.

The engine compartment is cramped and you'll notice how much heat the engine gives off when you drive the car in the summer and get stuck in traffic - heat soak into the cabin footwells is cured by using the A/C and without it on, you soon realise just how warm BMW V8s run.

Great fun indeed.. Managed 2 outside the chippy - suddenly the still of the night was smashed with thunderous V8 warble followed by screaming alarms.. Daughter thinks this car is the 'real deal' and so does her papa!!

Ah thanks that's reassuring.. Sure does get cosy in the cab - we dressed (so we thought) accordingly re open air excursion inc jacket, hoodie and hats..Blimey warm as toast. Still better that than my beloved moaning like her Mother does about always being cold and 'turn the heating up'!

Agree: my BMW car runs oil temperature at 100C, there is no water temperature gauge. It is surprisng just how long it takes to heat the oil, the heater is blowing hot air long before the oil is up to temperature.

Make sure you wear shorts in the summer.

Simon, do you know if there is any heat insulation material on the transmission tunnel upholstry or under the carpet on the front bulkhead?

I put Dynamat inside the Roadster, which also doesn't lack heat soak and has NO A/C, and it made a big difference to "leg comfort last summer.

If the Plus 8 is free of any heat/sound insulation I may be repeating the exercise.....!!

Peter, I believe there is in the Aeromax; however, I am not certain with respect to the Plus 8.
