Hi Guys,
Is there a simple, foolproof way of determining what type of fluid is in my braking system. The brakes were totally re-built some years ago and alas the PO who did the work cannot remember if he used silicone?.

I believe that silicon fluid has a purple hue.

Dave you are right it's a slight purple. When used, it's also normal to attach a warning label to the master cylinder.

Drip some onto your wing and see if it does or doesn't eat off the paint!
Actually, you could drop some onto a painted surface I guess.
