Andy the 1600 ecoboost is a relatavely small engine and very neat which will leave pleny of room for cooling.dont forget its out of the box tried and tested the only problem will be the price,knowing morgan as we all do will probably mean a price hike of 2 or3 k and more for the 2ltr

It doesn't make a lot of sense as the current 2.0l Ecoboost engines turn out at least 240 hp and torque that competes with the 3.7 Roadster. The 1.6l Ecoboost that turns out 182hp may be better. The advantage of a turbocharged engine is the development of high torque at relatively low rpm.
Personally I think I would prefer a low boost supercharger. Peter, I have recently taken delivery of a Ford Kuga with that very same turbocharged 1.6 182PS Ecoboost engine, even though it's still tight (700 miles) it's streets better than my old 1.6 VVTi in the car I traded in. Already it seems to want to rev and its low down torque is very good. I have it nailed to an Auto box because of leg problems but even so it's impresive. In a Morgan I think it would be VERY interesting, bring it on!

Andy, I think many of the problems you have experience of are from Turbochargers of 20 plus years ago, things have moved on considerably, we had suggested under bonnet heat issues with several cars at Volvo that had Turbocharged versions post launch of the naturally aspirated versions, none of which came to fruition. The modern turbocharger recycles much of its heat as part of more efficient design and installation, intercoolers have improved also and no longer need to be massive auxiliary air radiators. If they can get a V6 and AC in there they can certainly get a 4 banger, turbo and intercooler in.

Looking at the 2L GDI installation on my BMW320 the air to air intercooler is quite large, about 1m wide by only about 20cm tall, it runs along the front of the car under the radiator. The car runs no hotter than the 4.8L engine in the Plus 8, both seem to be cooler than the Roadster in terms of waste hear lost from the engine. If MMC can mount the 1.6L Ecoboost well back in the car there should be enough room to fit a similar area intecooler, possible at an angle so it pickus up cold air from under the car and vents through the existing bonnet louvres.. It could be an absolute peach!! Now all it needs is a chhd, stiff chassis...

Oi ! Never mind bacofoil - its Alcan aluminium
there is no replacement for displacement , so the best bet is fit a 2.5 duratec to up the power to 290bhp simples !

Interesting comments James but as it was explained to me the turbo would be an add on to the base car or maybe I missunderstood not being a tech guy! Just like to get in and drive!
