It was a pretty iconic film, a very good film. Controversial, even in France when it came out in 1974, libertarian, politically incorrect (understatement) and originally banned in UK.
It was eventually on Channel 4 here in the 1990s and I recorded it – on videotape in those days and now transferred to DVD. This posting on Talk Morgan has reminded me to watch it again.
The film, one of Gerard Diepardieu’s most notable, also featured Patrick Dewaere as his travelling partner in crime and Miou-Miou as their shared plaything.
The Morgan doesn’t do much more than provide a place for a short session of the favourite recreation of the two car-stealing and woman-using young bloods that the film is about, and then break down. So they stole a bigger car. I don’t think the back seat of the Morgan would have suited them for long anyway
The mirrors on the car are bonnet mounted, a bit forward of the usual place, so that might point to its age.

Just goes to show you how they make things up in the movies, that would never happen in real life

The title of the film in English seems to be "Going place", in French the title was "Les Valseuses" which means literaly "waltz dancer", but there is an other meaning in slang and in this context the real name of the film was the "balls" !!!

Gerard wouldn't fit into a Morgan these days! Reputedly on several bottles of wine and mountain of food a day.  I think he has also left France....possibly in Russia now?

I think he has become some sort of tax rebel and lives, officially, in Belgium but is no less French. I expect he'll be back again if Sarcozy gets in next time

Yes, I confirm - really a cool and funny movie. Liberal and liberally... Poor Miou-Miou (in her role) suffering from climax problems... (nothing to do with the famous Climax engines)   Dépardieu and Dewaere aka "Les Valseuses" also steel a Citroën DS and do other stupid things with cars, girls and weapons in this delectable movie from the good old 70ies...

Just watched it on YouTube
It's a bit racy, the Morgan appears very near the end and only for a few seconds so it's hardly a starring role.
The car must have been in tip top restored condition to command the price it did
