For about the cost of a M3W the sliding canopy option should be possible, and it would look amazing!

Given the width of the M3W it would need the canopy from something like a Jet Provost, a similarly snug side by side 2 seat aircraft.

Canopy

Would be great in winter, but might need some ventilation for the summer!

The guy who can get canopy's made says they're very reasonably priced. Of course in aircraft money that probably means big bucks

My choice without a doubt just like the old man flew clipped.

To help you decide An XIX PR and it is the last production one and a 11c.

The Hurricane was a monoplane version of the Fury biplane. The tail section is the same.
The Spitfire was similar to the Trad Morgan in that it was produced for a long period, had a variety of engines and body shapes, but was immediately recognisable as a Spitfire.

We're the clipped wings designed to give a rate of turn equal to the Hurricane

The Spitfire suffered, all its life, from a rate of roll that was brilliant up to about 250 knots but reduced rapidly thereafter until at 400 knots it was almost none existent. Although somewhat improved it was not cured until the Spiteful wing arrived in late 1944 which finally solved that problem, but brought others. For example the wonderfully progressive stall of the elliptical wing became a sudden and nasty wing drop.

The clipped wings fitted to Spitfires used at low and medium levels was an effort to improve roll rate. They were coupled to a supercharger optimized for low and medium altitude use. Together this made them very effective at up to about 15,000 feet, but rather useless above. Some Spitfires were good up to about 42,000 feet, a hell of a height, even with a rudimentary pressurized cockpit.

Apologies for the lengthy post..I've built up quite a library of books written by spitfire pilots. Alex Henshaw's "Sigh for a Merlin" is on of the best.

Sigh....

Worth buying for anyone interested in the Spitfire.

Clipped wings

Starting with the Mk. V, some Spitfires had their classic elliptical wingtips replaced by shorter, squared-off fairings reducing span to 32 ft 2 in (9.80 m). Shortening the wing span substantially enhanced the roll rate, closing the gap in this respect between the Spitfire and the formidable German Focke-Wulf Fw 190.

The clipped-wing Spitfires are sometimes being referred to as “L.F.” versions, e.g.: LF Mk Vb. Formally, this is a misunderstanding as the LF designation referred to the low-altitude version of the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine and while many LF Spitfires had the clipped wings, a number did not.

They were not concerned about the Hurricane as they outmanoeuvred it from day one - it was the German adversary of the day they were constantly developing for.
