This may amuse.. +8 The original review of the Plus 8 posted by "Speedmonkey" was one of the most realist I have seen...and influenced my decision to buy the car.

Good account Peter. As I have said before the plus 8 is a great car and only the price stops it selling in volume.

Good account Peter. As I have said before the plus 8 is a great car and only the price stops it selling in volume. Indeed it is a great car, in my view still a traditional Morgan but one for the 21st century. I want to see it continue, as I've said before the chassis is amazingly good: even on 19" wheels with 35 profile tyres it offers a quality of ride that makes the open 2 seat cars offered by "the Germans" look unrefined. If it could be offered, profitably, at less than £70K then it would sell well, if they could get it into the USA then sales would grow further. We can only live in hope. A Plus 6 with the AJ126 Jaguar V6, actually more power than the BMW V8, 380 bhp and 340 ft lbs would be very nice indeed! Come on MMC, you know you want to do it....!

This is the future in my opinion, move away from the old Trad Chassis, leave it to the Tinkerers to play with on a weekend. 3 x BMW Engines 1.6 2.5 4+ 3 x sets of Wheels, individual hand picked interiors and colours, re-design Doors to eliminate Leaks, this will retain individuality and place the cars into their own bracket Lets move forward

Where does the extra money go?
Take a nice Plus 4 at £40k
So we will give maybe £5k for the engine, £2k chassis, £2k suspension - wheels, body interior etc let's say £6k max
Only £55k so we will throw in another £5k for good measure, because I don't know what I am on about and making the numbers up.
So £60k - where does the other £20k or £30k go? - no idea.

No way you'd be able to build an alloy platform car with 1.6 at £40k!
Plus...for the purists, its far too wide!!

Jays, I have to agree..the existing tub was never engineered to make cheaply...this was brought home today whilst having the headlight aim adjusted today I was able to go into the pit and study the underside of the Plus 8.
Now I understand why that tub is both so good and so expensive. The quality of the engineering, the alloy welds, the fit and finish is stunning. It is precision, race quality engineering. It is far too good for what it is!
I still think with suffiicient violume production a production engineering developed version of the tub would be possible for the +4, Roadster +6 and the Plus 8 / Supersport.
Lotus need to sell 3000 of their tub based cars a year for the profit to be what they need to develop new cars, according to the interview with the new CEO in CAR.
If MMC could buld and sell 3000 Aero based cars a year the cost of the tub would fall and it would all begin to look rather nice.
So, my vision..
Plus 4 with the new JLR GDI motor, and ... dare I say it...diesel for some markets....
Plus 6 with the AJ 126
Plus 8 with the JLR V8
The 4/4 would continue as a totally traditional ladder frame trad but with more modern rear suspension.

The problem with your vision Peter, is that the factory could not produce 3000 cars a year without a massive investment or indeed a new factory. And that would be the end of Morgan as we know it.
