Back in the 70s and 80s my wife use to go out with one cameraman, assistant cameraman and sound recordist. That was film and then early handheld,Sony video cameras and you would think with modern technology that you'd need little support!

I've given up watching and listening to the BBC news, it is little better than a video/audio version of "The Sun".
Channel 4 news isn't bad, but for most things that matter I use the Econmist website.

On the subject of "filming" most of the Williams "videos" are taken using a Canon EOS 60D, a good mid price SLR, in video mode plus a seperate microphone. The quality seems to be good: I suspect the skill is in video editing and post production.

Iagree with a lot of this - why does some poor reporter(&crew) have to stand outside the Houses of Parliament in the cold, wet and dark when it would be much better to report from the studio.
Maybe we have become so used to having pictures with everything that we have become too stupid to remember what Buck House, Parliament etc. look like.
Bring back steam radio when we could fill in the story from our imagination - although again that could dupe the gullible- Archie Andrews & Lenny the Lion - ventriloquists on the radio!!and folks thought they were brilliant- somehow didn`t survive TV!!
Incidentally - talking of the good old days-I recently got a copy of facsimilies of the 1960 Eagle Annuals - brilliant stuff. BUT one of the "How to Make" articles was how to make & use a Molotov Cocktail!! I`ve hidden it in case MI5 find out!
Ah those days of young innocence!

Never mind, at least the beeb are thinking about bringing back "Top Of The Pops"
