I'm from Italy and i have a 3W It's classified as L5E vehicle so: registration: as a bike helmet: not required ( art 171 comma 1bis CDS )

The standard M3W roll bars are head-rests only. They help against an impact from the rear but not much in case of a rollover. The Australian version makes more sense (but does not look that nice). A full face helmet fits well to the Slingshot, for the M3W a classic style helmet with goggles is the way to go.

I'm from Italy and i have a 3W It's classified as L5E vehicle so: registration: as a bike helmet: not required ( art 171 comma 1bis CDS ) L5E is a specific category for 3 wheelers. It covers things like the Ape car and the Moto Guzzi 3 wheeler truck. The standard M3W roll bars are head-rests only. They help against an impact from the rear but not much in case of a rollover. The Australian version makes more sense (but does not look that nice). A full face helmet fits well to the Slingshot, for the M3W a classic style helmet with goggles is the way to go. Exactly correct. The low roll bars of the M3W do not qualify as a security cell (art 171 comma 1bis CDS) therefore a helmet is required. This is the advice of Borghi, the Italian importer.

I suppose a helmet would give you a few more seconds of of grinding terror before your head is pulped. Golden rule bikes or 3W: don't crash!!!!

Dealerships started taking pre-orders on July 27th...my deposit check cleared the bank on July 29th. The top of the line SlingShot is the SL model and only comes in red. I couldn't stomach the red Slingshot so I ordered their titanium-colored base model and ordered all the extras to upgrade to the SL trim level. Delivery was anticipated as late September to early October. As of today, there was no definitive date on delivery of my SlingShot.
After hearing about the recall (stop ride) as it pertains to the electric-assist rack and pinion steering bearings...combined with ECU issues, fit & finish issues, howling final drive (bevel box), today, I went and retrieved my deposit. I'm sure Polaris will get it sorted but the SlingShot was my second choice anyway.
I did drive the dealership's demo on two occasions and the SlingShot is a hoot to drive in the handling department but certainly wasn't edgy in the power delivery. With it's wide stance and car-like front tires, it would hang in the corners. I assume that Polaris de-tuned the ECU to protect the drive train/final drive but it was like driving a typical 4-banger car....eventually, it would get up to speed but far from being on pipe. The rpm's linger during shifts and many have problems of the rpm's dropping so low when stopping in traffic, it dies. Too many reports of missing fasteners here and there, body panels not lining up, tail-lights not plugged into the harness from the factory, etc.
There are basically 3 recalls out on it at the moment...steering, roll bars and a switch on the clutch...no mention of a ECU re-map.
I'd had hoped to have a reverse 3-wheeler to drive (and just tolerate it's appearance) while I got my M3W back up to snuff...but my energy and efforts will be better served staying focused on the M3W.
There were things about the SlingShot I liked...but there is more I would like in a well sorted M3W. Where the M3W is sexy, the SlingShot has a face that only a mother could love.

Agreed. BTW did you replace your original compensator with the Centa unit yet? If so how did the process go? Level of difficulty? Things to be on alert for? Insights will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Spirit,
I'm still waiting on a bevel box and have for some time now. All indications is that it won't be long before I have it in my hands. Then, I will do it all at once. While I'm in, I want to correct or improve any and all things that I can. Since I have opted out of the SlingShot, I'm going to shoot the moon on the M3W. I suspect it will be an endeavor but I want to do whatever necessary to pump the reliability into this puppy. It's just a function of time, money and willingness.
