Just read in the paper that the EU (God Bless it's cotton socks) is to propose compulsory fitting of electronic speed limiters to all new cars. This will be controlled by satellite technology which, we all know, is infallible.

That will require up to date satnav mapping data my "up to date" map updates still show 60mph in 50 limits on a lot of Wilts roads that have been 50 for years!
Not sure how you'll stand in court contesting a speeding ticket in these cars which in theory will not allow you to ever speed!

For a long time now I've thought it strange that absolute speeds an power have not been limited by legislation. Just my opinion of course but nobody needs a vehicle, car or bike, which is capable of more than 200 kph. Realistically 100 hp is enough for any road bike and for cars something like 250 hp/tonne is probably enough.

I thought certain manufactures "limited" their cars to some (over the top arguably) top speed to avoid such legislation.

When introduced it will presumably have a positive affect on the residual value of older cars not so equipped. Especially sports cars I would think.

Believe it or not: it's the Germans and their Autobahn without speedlimits which will help avoid speed limiters for cars in the EU.
Sometimes it is an advantage to have our neighbours with their "free speed for free drivers"
I could live with a 100mph limit but some gooddoers will surely fight than to reduce the limit to 80mph, later to 60mph and finally we will end up at walking speed for cars because of the improved road safety and the support of public transport...
