I just did a 20mph speed awareness course - caught at 24 whilst slowing down. You have to be 20 at the zone start/end point.
The course was only set up last September. On it, the guy mentioned the expansion of these zones and strict enforcement. My group are gunineapigs for an assessment program for the awareness course due it it being new.
What baffles me is that a 20mph zone is a good thing outside a school...but at what times of the day?
A variable speed would be more appropriate surely?
As for driving techniques, he was advocating use of low gears etc, accepting increased mpg but ignoring it.
My experience of the comments on the course tends to see speed fines as an increasing source of revenue with less than rigorous reasoning to justify the speed zones, not just 20mph ones.
If we cast our kinds back to the introduction of cars 100+ years ago! they have always been looked at negatively with restrictions - fines/ hate( yes hate), legislation, from various sources. As such motoring has become a huge cash cow, despite being a major employer/economy generator.
Politicians(national and local) won't dare go against the trend for fear of losing their gravy train seats.
Dear me! I have made a couple of posts today and ranted in both.
Time for lunch/ walk the dogs...
