The battery had moved slightly and the live terminal had touched the battery clamp which caused a direct short.
I then telephoned Yuasa technical dept to find out the EXACT correct battery for my car. They said a YB5063.I have just received the "correct" battery which now falls through the tray.
Tomorrow I will cut a piece of ply to sit in the battery support frame.Back on the road this weekend-yippee!
You were lucky not to lose the whole car. exting

Possibly nieve question, but why not fit the same make as OEM?

Are there good reasons not to do so?

Well for me Peter, I was desperate to get the car running for the Bicester event so it was down to the local Halfords! Sad to say I didn't make the event!!

Oh....and the original battery had lost all its labels and it wasn't the usual red Banner one.

I needed a new battery on my previous car - 4/4 1993. The one in it was not holding a good charge.
I measured the old one and went to Halfords ang got one same size and power rating. Replaced the earth with a new wire at same time.
The current car has an Odyssey battery and Ctek conditioner to keep it in good nick.

That makes sense...!

One advantage of the Plus 8 is the battery couldn't be easier to get at!

Oh, the reason a battery sitting on concrete can go flat is down to damp, causing tracking from the terminals to the ground.

Thank you Peter. My spare is sitting on a block of wood so there shouldn't be any problems?

Unfortunately something in my car is not wired up correctly and not protected by fuses. I have just burned out the second electronic board behind the dash panel. I think it is something to do with the cabin fan switch and the Morgan installed aircon.
