Hi Everyone

I decided to build a enclosed trailer to store my trike and take it with me on a extended trip. It took a couple weeks to design and fabricate. I should be done in a week or so but this is what the frame looks like before the floor, rail guides and outer skin goes on.

Brilliant. I wish I had a garage as large and well equipped.

The Garage belongs to a friend who is helping me build it. He does custom trailers on the side and has a beautiful shop to do this in. We got this far in four days during the last two weekend's! I am glad it all works the way I drew it up. What a nailbiter when we tacked it all up and hope everything came in on target. I lucked out and it did. It should end up finished at just 272Kg.

Wow, that baby is strong. I bought a home made trailer to tow my Caterham with, some years ago, which had a quarter of the steel in it, and it served me well for years. Yours will last for several lifetimes! We'll look forward to seeing the finished piece, with the car strapped on, ready to go.

Thanks Paul!

Dennis has been pushing me to get it done so it should be finished by the end of the week. He did a great job beefing it up in a few places so I do not expect any problems down the line.

It will be great to take to different distance towns and cruise in new areas knowing I have a place to lock it up during the night.

For a first time trailer builder and designer there is a lot to keep track of but I should be in great shape by Saturday if everything goes right.

Ed, I too have been looking a lot at trailers. In my case motorcycle.

I have a couple dozen pics of rampless trailers a lot like yours with the pivoting axles on the pivot frame. This looks to me to be a good idea except that you do have to do the rubber torsion style single sided axles and make sure that the surround frame work will not twist as it's the only item of the frame carrying the full load of the trailer and occupant.

It also looks like you've built from aluminum to keep the overall weight down, but the raw material costs go up quite a bit. Also the welding usually goes from a MIG to a TIG unless the welder has a spool gun with aluminum wire handy.

Either way it looks great and if (when)I make a trailer, it will be with the pivot frame like yours. It just makes riding a bike onto the trailer a lot easier.

Nice job!!!

Thanks Dan!

Tomorrow is hump day and hope to have it all enclosed that day. The wheel rails have all been made and all the skins and floor have been sheared and prepped for the 3M VHB tape so it should be a go.

I hope it all works.

Brilliant design, good luck with completion today. Post another video clip when finished if you can.

Thanks Deano

Just got back and the trailer is just about done. I have to go back Sunday to finish up and hopefully be driving it home.

I will take a video and pictures as before but a few items like the wiring for the lights will be done in the Spring by me.

Fingers crossed that the maiden voyage will be this Sunday.

Stay tuned
