I intend to use some protective film (same as Defendall and used to protect painted rear bumpers on estate cars at Volvo) under it to protect from wear at the rub points. I am looking to get a double buckle one as I always seem to walk to the wrong side of the car or need the opposite side bonnet open. Can't find anyone supplying them any more, any idea's?, also is this a good or bad idea. My car is Aston Martin Meteorite Grey (Silver Mica) and just thinking a black strap would just set it off? What do you guys think?
I have straps on my cars and have had no problems. I use the kind with the lambs wool backing between the leather and the paint, but no protective film on the car itself. I had one on my 71 Plus 8 for 10 years with no marking. I too like the double buckle but don't know of a specific vendor. Might suggest you go to tack shop in horse country and have one made. Might be less expensive as well.

Funny you should say that, Colin. I was furtling in the garage the other night and came across a lambswool-backed bonnet belt I bought from John Worrall well over 10 years ago. I didn't fit it at the time because I was warned off by people telling me I'd ruin the paintwork. Now, many years later, the paintwork isn't in that good a condition anyway so it doesn't seem so much of an issue now.
Mine is just a single-buckle job, I was thinking of fitting it this weekend. On a car as old as mine which is well patinated/pretty scruffy, I think a bit of extra wear on the paint wouldn't look out of place, and it's hardly likely to detract from the resale value, given the modifications.

Exactly what I am looking for thanks, however they have no black in stock and when I asked at the open day last year I was advised they did not know when they would have them again, I have been checking every month or so and not seen stock listed. If anyone from Williams wants to take this up then please do back at work and PM me when you have stock please and an order will be by return if I have not found one elsewhere.
PS should also add I completed the online 'advise me when back in stock' but not heard anything back so assuming they have no stock. For info after a Black with silver buckles.
