I just got back in from the garage. Inspired by the discussion, I have just fitted my bonnet belt.

Then I sat and looked at it for 5 minutes, decided I didn't like it, and removed it.

So I can put the belt back in the spares department. Who knows, in another 10 years I might have changed my mind!

I'm with you here Tim. Mine came with (an unpacked) belt in brown, I didn't like it so removed it. Tried one from Simmonds in black, didn't like the double buckles and in the end have the latest one from Morgan which I like.

Tastes change with time.

My car had a cheap and nasty webbing bonnet strap fitted ( previous owner) and it had marked the paint work (micro scratching). I polished the paintwork and put a single buckle brown leather strap on the car.
I used a self adhesive velco ( smooth bit)on the back of the strap so it would not rub on the paint and replaced the bonnet strap.
I did the lot DIY for under £30.
But by choice would never have fitted a strap in the first place !

Cheap webbing strap !

Better replacement leather strap

A webbing strap is a bit peculiar - why bother
The nice brown leather strap is a massive improvement

No idea regards that webbing strap as it was the previous owners idea ! ooo
But I had to replace it to cover the micro scratches & GLUE ( Araldite !) which took ages to get off.
I think the last guy liked DIY ( Destroy it yourself ooo !)

But its all sorted now
Proper Job smile

Webbing strap is nothing......a couple of years ago at the factory, I saw a rather well used Aero 8 with the bonnet tied down with baler twine!

If it's good enough for Princess Anne to use as a dog lead, I'm sure it's use to hold down bonnets is perfectly acceptable... rofl

Tried this this afternoon. The strap has come up a treat, no sign left of the white marks.

Thanks for the tip.

Andy.
