My 4/4 was delivered from the factory in 1969 with a leather bonnet strap and therefore has two louvres missing so that the strap lies flat on the bonnet. I imagine that straps fitted as an after market fitment may rub on the raised edge of the louvres.

Exactly which is why I took mine off and sold it Exactly: Tarka had a bonnet strap from new, but no louvre gap, so I asked Williams to remove the strap and credit me, which they did.
