also to get the lid up and over the boot space, i don't think it would clear the hood if it was up

with this arrangement it is moving away from the hood ... I think!

I guess this way any minor rear end damage is going to cost more to fix too!

Apparently the boot clamps the roof in place, again according to Miscellany article. Charles Neal was pretty thorough with his questioning - or Jon Wells was forthcoming in his description!

To be I am quite honest I am rather underwhelmed by the revamped Aero 8. I am not sure it was worth holding up Miscellany for 3 days just to cover the Geneva show. The back is reminiscent of the Lexus SC 430 but I am sure it will appeal to a small number of Morgan enthusiasts.

I disagree Neil - I think it's quite a scoop for Miscellany and shows that MMC are indeed paying more heed to the Owners Club.

I also think the new Aero will appeal to a significant number of Morgan enthusiasts but most of them, like me, will never be in a position to own one.

It also keeps MMC well up in the motoring press as this will be stealing a few front pages I reckon. I love my trad but the new Aero shows positive forward thinking and I congratulate Steve, Jon and the team for producing such a stunning vehicle.

But not everyone will agree with me - and that's great because we are all individuals and not sheep. soapbox

Cheers !

I do like this rear end but would like it more with an exposed spare wheel!
Even if it was done in the style of a Healey Silverstone.

Having spent some time with Jon Wells I'm able to confirm this isn't the finished boot it will be deeper and with revised hinges will offer more space.

The rear clamshell boot will close and tension the roof.

"in the style of a Healey Silverstone." Oh, now that's an interesting car. My first concours with the DHC had me parked next to one. Loved it.

The boot was designed to open this way for a number of reasons..

1. To reduce the number of shut lines on the rear end panels to give a cleaner feel to it. The shut lines follow the main wrap around styling lines.

2. To provide a means to tension the fabric hood.. there have been a number of methods over the years, from an eccentric cam arrangement on the MK 1 aero to the tensioning frame on the traditional car

3. To hide the fuel filler, again this was to keep the look of the rear end clean and uncluttered.

Very interesting to read the comments, it was always going to cause a stir it has clearly divided opinion.. some love it, some hate it..
