Then of course for next year at Geneva 2016 they will show the new Roadster (Plus 6) and the Aero 6. Well I had a chat with "someone who should know" and asked about a smaller engined version. The answer was "Watch this space", so my half joking suggestion may not be so far from the truth. Remember you first heard it here Reading between the lines of what I was and wasn't told I do not think it will be a Ford engine. Apparently developing the engine package for these cars is very expensive as everything is now controlled electronically. Just slipping in the Roadster engine and gearbox with its existing wiring, ECUs etc is apparently not possible. I realised that seemingly simple things like the electronic window winders are actually pretty complex. The time for development of a new model/engine package is apparently 2 to 3 years so, as I can't deny that the years are passing for me too, it may be a bit late for me. Unfortunately for our friends across the pond USA homologation will not even be considered. It would be just too costly for the small number of cars that would be sold. What the powers that be at Morgan do not seem to realise is that there are many Morgan owners and potential new buyers in countries outside the UK who are quite prepared to pay premium prices for a car like the new Aero if it was fitted with a smaller, and less powerful motor. Take for example the Maserati Ghibli diesel: 3 litre V6 in either 250 hp (for Italy) or 275 hp with 570 Nm of torque (more torque than the Aero 8) and it sounds like this: TeaserSound.mp3 Remember my teaser sound?

I've got a 2013 F31 Touring with their N20 Gasoline motor in its lowest power format, 184ps.
It is an unwerwhelming thing, cold it sounds like a diesel, throttle respons is OK with no obvious turbo lag but compared with the straight 6 2.0L unit it replaced it is slow, wooden and whilst it does rev it sounds as if it would prefer not to do so.
But if the Aeros are built round BMW electronics then it makes total sense to go that way for an Aero 4, using a BMW motor producing 250 bhp. With BMWs new ZF8HP transmission it would be very popular.

You also need to consider engine height - BMW traditionally have had quite tall engines. The Aero was designed to accomodate a relatively short engine given the splayed nature of the V format.
So I'd also be looking at engine height or for a S4 can it run canted over ala. Talbot Lotus Sunbeam and the canted 2.2.

Peter that Maserati diesel sounds fantastic ,I would never have guessed it was not a petrol engine .An aero 6 diesel ,with those figures and extra economy can't be a bad thing........the photos look great ,were you impressed with the new aero in the flesh ?

A big v8 petrol does exactly the same as a big diesel when parked in a garage not moving as most of our cars are, with people doing between 1k and 5k ayear it makes no common sense although there are always exceptions and before anybody jumps down my throat check out the mileages on Aeros over the last few years its quite common to have a ten year old with only 30k on the clock.

I know we have some serious BMW worshippers on here, but I have seen issues with colleagues at work which would put me off having a Morgan with a 'smaller' BMW engine. The worst experience I've seen being a total self ingestion from those "intake swirl flaps", despite having a FSH. The new engine was over £11k, but because it had FSH, he only had to pay about £4k. Unlucky but the engineering isn't bullet proof.

A bit off subject re Aero but.... A company I used to deal with gave reps BMW cars but converted to gas instead of petrol/ diesel. They were forever being taken in to BMW dealer for engine work despite the changeover having been done by BMW. We used to wind her up(rep) by asking if she had come in her BMW or a hire car! Most Morgans tend to do low-ish mileages so, apart from lack of use issues there shouldn't be too many problems. After all, the engines are from major players - Ford/ BMW....
