>>I live in Irthlingborough! !<<

I think you mean Ardlenock ;-)

I'm in Boughton, just off to Oz for a month but it would be good to meet up when I return. Keep us informed of progress

I had a 1997 4.6 plus 8 long door for ten years, when I got it at seven years old it had done less than 7000 miles, I ran it for a year, never had an overheating problem. Then had it chipped and never had any problems, it ran as sweet as a nut and was the best plus 8 I ever owned. I'd had a 3.5 and a non cat 3.9. I sold it last year with 28000 miles on the clock as it was very thirsty and having retired didn't think the constant visits to the petrol station could be justified. It also was starting to need some cosmetic work, body, new s/s wires etc.
I have regretted selling the car every day since, I miss the oomph, the burble, just everything about it, bar the fuel consumption, was awesome. Some others on this forum may testify to the acceleration/ speed of the thing.
I now own a 2007 plus four which is lovely and I get over 45 mpg but it isn't an 8 and never will be, if I could afford a 4.6 plus 8 I'd buy another one in a heartbeat, IMHO they were the best plus 8 ever built. Go for it, you'll never regret it.

I can vouch for the oomph of Rob's +8 having vainly attempted to keep up during Vagabond trips to the Le Mans 24 hour.
The only time I ever got past was when he was filling it with petrol!

The only times I could keep up were in town traffic and if I was leading through some of the Highland lanes.
Cracking car that one Rob!

Thanks for the replies. I feel like I have a forum of my own let alone a thread.
Jethro give me a call when you are back from Oz, hopefully I will have chosen one by then.
Just need someone with a nice +8 to sell now

robmog88, sounds like you should have kept that one. I think we have all sold cars we should have kept. Fuel is a consideration in retirement but I dont envisage too many thousands of miles each year

Uncle Melvyn Rutter has a very low mileage 1998 3.9 for sale.
http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C519979

Whichever you chose you will fall in love with - I've had two and I am hooked. Put 25,000mls on a 4/4 Sport in between the Plus 8's but had to return to that burble and seamless torque. My 1999 3.9 had 20,000mls only on it when I bought it last July and all I have needed to do is replace the rear wheel cylinders and shoes, front pads and a change of all fluids.
About 23mpg - we pass this way but once... quickly thumbs

Good luck with the search.

p.s. recycled teenager has seen the Perranwell Red one currently on the market - pm him if you are interested in an opinion on it I'm sure he will help.
