The later Aero based cars, including Tarka, have a pair of 6 x 9 eliptical speakers munted behind the seats.

Based on past experience these are unlikely to be particularly special. Has anyone upgraded these speakers? I seem to recall one post from a Super Sport owner that they had done something to improve the speakers.

If so, I have 2 Questions:

1. Are the screws holding the speakers held by captive nuts or clips
2. Are the speakers inserted fitted from inside the cabin or from behind?

I'm thinking of fitting Alpine SPR 69 units. About £100 a pair.

The seat belt "boxes" make access not as easy as it could be...

Hi Peter,
The rear speakers are ok, but not a patch on this. Our experience of long distance journesys was transformed by it:

Fitted by the factory, works perfectly, radio, phone calls, intercom, less road noise, would not be without it.

I have no direct experience but I fear they are fitted from behind, looking at here.

Thanks: it does look that way..

At least with the Plus 8 access isn't impossible, removing the panel that sits where the spare should be on a Trad makes it possible.

Something to investigate.

The reason is that since replacing the head unit with a rather better Alpine version I find with the volume turned up and a bass rich content one rear speaker is rattling, a classic symptom of a cheap speaker being asked to do too much.

Can you take the front grille off the speaker Peter, or is it held in place from the rear?

That is the big question!
There are 4 screws visible, but what are they secured to?
I really don't want to undo the screw and then find I can't tighten it again....

So, I'll take the pannel off the rear deck and see waht I can see!
