My M3W front tires are ready to be replaced. I am looking for a shop in the San Francisco or San Jose California area that can properly mount and balance the tires on the knock-off wheels. From the look of the wear I could likely use an alignment as well. Any suggestions?

Also, any suggestions on replacement type? Stock Avon or others?

I fitted Blockleys over the winter to replace the original Avons and used Dynabeads to balance them. No unsightly stick on weights.

The Dynabeads work perfectly at all speeds, a great invention.

Dab, most pleased to read your experience of Dynabeads. I have been thinking of using them in my 4/4, the wheels have been balanced conventionally but I still have a very slight vibration through the steering wheel, which I'd like to eliminate. Have you got your own compressor, or did you have to take the Mog to a dealer/tyre fitter to get the tyres re-inflated? Gerry.

Go for the Blockleys and up the pressure to 26-28 psi. They are proper car tires and will improve the steering and handling quite a bit. The stock Avon tire is a sidecar tire and not really built for steering with all the torsion and flex involved.

The Blockley's have slightly different overall dimensions. Should I stick with the 4.00 x 19?

The Dynabeads are interesting. I believe this technique is used in clothe washers as well.

Haven't heard any reports back on the larger Blockley's - the bigger size was fitted to the "Death's Head" customised M3W that was at the factory for a while (might even still be there?) had the 4.50s fitted apparently but without the mudguards which might be a bit of a clue as to how well they fit.
I've been running the 4.00x19 Blockley's for a while now and find them very good indeed.

I agree the Blockleys are a big improvement , but did you have any issues with mudguard clearance ? I have had to 'adjust' mine out a fraction else they were rubbing on heavy corners. Even now there is only about 5mm clearance between tyre and mudgaurd on the lower edge , which is a concern.

No issues at all with clearance on the 4.00x19s. Only odd thing was that my first set needed very little lead to balance them, second set required loads. Have never tried the Dyna Beads and have seen mixed reports on tinternet.

Yea, mine needed loads on one side , which is pretty ugly ( might paint the lead black when I get mo, to suite the wheel ) and very little on the other. odd.

I have a local friendly tyre shop who let me use their equipment to fit my own tyres ( I bunged him a few bob for a drink) as he didn't want the responsibility of damaging the rims. To get the Dynabeads into the tubes I had to drill out the valve stems a bit, quite straight forwards as instructions come with the beads.

Give them a go you won't be disappointed.
