Well everyone, I'm another approaching retirement who has bit the bullet and bought my first Morgan, a 97 4/4.
I had a tatty 66 Spitfire in my youth, great fun but traded it in for a Morris Oxford estate to carry building materials, perhaps thats where I got the first seed planted for an open top sports car, and what a beauty it is, needs a tiny little bit of paint work around the edges but otherwise lovely.
Had a bit (lots) of opposition from HWMBO worrying about me going through a mid life crisis but even she agrees its beautiful now.
I love reading all the posts and hope to learn more from them.
ps can anyone suggest if its feasable to just have the edges repainted as I am reluctant to touch the rest of the original painwork.

Welcome to the forum and Happy Birthday from an ex Co. Durham resident.

Some good paint shops can blend in colours so well nowadays that it is perfectly possible to repair and respray small areas. It can be a mite colour sensitive , e.g. red tends to oxidise more quickly than other colours and therefore getting a good match can be more tricky as the red on the car probably no longer matches the original colour.

There are paint experts on this forum , so await one of those coming along to advise you better than I can.

Happy Birthday and welcome to the TM crankier.

If you have a look at the Morgan forum there is a thread at the top on how to clean your car. Personally I put hood up, use a soft sponge (absolutely clean) with a small amount of Zymol car wash. I rinse off with a hose first with fine sprayer first, then use the sponge and bucket of slightly soapy water and then hose off, I use a micro fibre towel to wipe dry( about £5). Wheels are a more laborious labour of love, to do properly it's put the car up on axle stands one end at a time. Loosen wheel nut(s) first and take off a wheel at a time and clean first with soapy water, dry and then polish, if stainless or chrome use chrome polish to protect them. Ensure you put copper slip grease on the splines and the threads before putting back, use an old took brush, be careful of the splines they can be razor sharp.

When jacking up use a hydraulic jack at the front in the centre of the round tube of the cross head, the frame just in front of the radiator, make sure it does not slip when the car goes up, place the axle stands one on each side of the engine under the chassis rails. The rear is similar you jack the centre of the rear chassis cross member and stands under the chassis rails by the wheels make sure you chock the front wheels.
Any of this must be done on the flat.

Cheers

Adrian
