I have not hesitated in rejoining. As a Centre Secretary like many others, I have given my time freely at my expense to support such a great car club. I am saddened by the few who appear to be so dissenting.

George, apart from the magazine, which leaves a lot to be desired in my view, successful membership of the club seems to be very much down to how good the local centre is. Mine is pretty low key although I have heard good things of Spotmog...apart from a predilection towards golf....or is that just a rumour?

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, you get out in proportion to what you put in.

I rarely attend the local meeting, but that's only due to overdosing on evening natters all my adult life. Interestingly the Gilbern Owners Club did a monthly Sunday lunch at a different venue each month. We attended a number of those, and visited some great venues - better in many ways than evening meetings, and a good turnout - everybody turned up in a Gilbern!

My involvement in the MSCC has resulted in meeting a huge number of owners and enthusiasts, way beyond the local group. It's been a hugely enjoyable experience.

I'm not a member of the MSCC but I'd like to ask a question.

If I join and pay for annual membership, why would I then have to pay another £5 'tax' in order to join and engage with SpotMog?

I join free on Talk Morgan and can choose to meet up for a cuppa or pint anytime I wish.

Can you explain what the benefit is of joining?

SpotMog holds many events with a very active friendly membership.

You are quite correct there are a good number of Spotmoggers who like to spoil a good walk by attempting hit a small dimpled ball, with a mind of its own!

The SpotMog membership, free last year incidentally, currently £5, covers running costs which include postage, web site, regalia, and deposits for members organising our events. There are hidden cost that are born by members in organising events, such as petrol and accomodation. Again why use the the phrase "tax", we have enormous good will in our group, with members putting themselves out for the common good, which is very much appreciated.

I considered leaving as I became quite discouraged by a lot of the politics that have been going on at national level.

However I take on board Dave's comment that you get out what you put in. I can see my local centre do work hard to arrange events and the fact that I don't attend many of them is a fault of mine that I should try and fix first.

SpotMog is then a club within a club and I have now two clubs to join, simply to enjoy my hobby with others of a similar mind. Why, if I join the main club, should I have to pay twice? Why are those volunteers not reimbursed from club funds for their efforts? Why should I as a new member have to pay a separate fee when it's all one club after all? To me, that's an added expense that I term a 'tax'. I cannot become a member of SpotMog without paying it!!

Your mention of "..the common good.." also makes me think your golfing activities take precedence over motoring. There is a page on your website with much information regarding the golf, but absolutely nothing about Morgans!

I understand why people in a locality would like to meet and get together, but why is there a need to have a completely separate and financed committee and hierarchy to the main club? Surely, a news page either on-line or on paper is all that's needed?

Sadly there are so many people who are intent upon a power struggle within one-margue clubs that it simply puts people off from paying to join because there is simply no need.

It's simply about having a car and enjoying it with like minded people, surely?

It seems to me quite fair that joining the local group should incur a modest administration fee. Of course one alternative is to increase the membership fee of MSCC by £5 which is then transferred to the local group as a capitation fee to cover the admin costs. I prefer to stick with the present system, which also allows one to join as many local groups as you wish, for the appropriate additional fee.

I just paid my renewal yesterday and today the latest copy of Miscellany was in the letter box. How's that for service?

Jokes aside I intend to remain a member and support the club. I don't get a lot out of it, not being in the UK, but I do enjoy Miscellany and look forward to the possibility of improvements in this important medium of communication.
