with typical good timing the car ('83 4/4 with ford 1.6 cvh) decides to play up just as we finally get some warm weather!
i'm thinking that the mechanical fuel pump has failed, i replaced it about 4 or 5 years ago, but i can no longer get one locally and looking online it would seem i can get an electric one for the same cash (about 30quid).
can anyone tell me if this is a fairly easy fix or am i better off buying another mechanical one?
recommendations for stockists, models and idiot installation guides also ap[appreciated.

I converted my CVH mechanical fuel pump to electrical, it was pretty straightforward. I mounted a Facet fuel pump (points type, not the poxy solid-state ones, I've known too many of them to fail)under the rear panel on the opposite side to the fuel filler, and a Malpassi filter/pressure regulator up on the front bulkhead.
It's important not to over-pressure the Weber carb, so you need an adjustable regulator that can bring it down to 5 psi or less, but still maintain a decent flow rate. I don't think you'll get away with spending only 30 quid though, a decent fuel pump is about 80 quid plus another 50 for the filter.
Edited to add - don't forget you'll also need an oil pressure switch which cuts the power to the pump if the oil pressure drops to zero. To be super-safe you would also fit an inertia switch to cut the power in the event of a crash which doesn't stop the engine. You don't want to be sat in a crashed car with a fractured fuel line, with the pump still gleefully spraying fresh petrol all over a hot engine...

Just fitted one Oct last year I will dig the stuff out for you its German pop it on tomorrow. The supplier was based in Wales. ?
