Excellent write up. Let me add one tiny detail from the motorcycle world. I used to routinely replace the bleed nipples on my brakes with "speed bleeders". They are from speedbleeder.com and contain a spring loaded check valve that lets fluid out and keeps air from being sucked back in. You could then dispense with the broom stick. My car is LHD and I can see that it would add difficultly as I would need a hinged broomstick.

Blimey Calum! Thank god Morgan didn't design the car with two rear wheels! Two wheels at the back? Strange concept. Didn't the factory try that in 1914 and revert back to the sensible option? I have seen the Speedbleed nipples years ago and heard that they were very good. have never actually used them though. I would add that I take no responsibility for skint knuckles, cursing, swearing, general bad language and broken marriages. Other than my own of course.

I'm having a new rear tyre fitted this week. Is the concensus that it's OK to just get the minilite wheel balanced once the tyre has been fitted OR is it necessary to have the whole assembly balanced as a unit (i.e. wheel+sprocket+hub+brake drum), or some combination of the above? All advice welcome!

Once you take the hub off you have a standard wheel - easy to get balanced anywhere. This is what I did and it's fine. To get the whole hub balanced might be more tricky. Try and get a cymetrical tyre - as most aren't these days, I went for a Michelin green X. Let us know how you get on

I have just replaced my rear tyre. Old one was three quarters worn after 14,00 km. But as I had everything off to put on new sprocket and hub seemed silly not to
I found that tyre places couldn't dynamic balance due to the odd centre cut out (allows hub to pass through)
Took the total assembly ( sprocket, hub, wheel and drum) to a Harley shop. They did a static balance using a spindle supported on two sets of bearings. Only took 10g to balance.
This method obviously doesn't do "off centre " inbalance
Not finished re-assembly yet, so no feedback
I got Bridgestone ECO25 tyre. Hopefully better wet grip
