Ok on the newer model the heat shield is much larger. my question is does this also help with cooling or is it just a heat shield. because if its just there to keep dumb people from touching a hot engine I think I will remove mine when I take delivery.

It is part of the fan assy. Older vehicles do not have a fan. Im guessing it could be modified. Dumb people can still touch the engine :-)

The City Cooling Kit can be added when not fitted in the original version.

Hmm sounds like a warranty contempt issue.

'The Austian' , I think 'Fathergoose' would like to remove the shield rather than retro fit one to an older car. As far as I can see it forms part of the support for the fan. To remove it would either require modification or removal of the whole fan. As Charles points out, this would effect the warranty. Seems like a lot of wasted effort to me.

So I got it wrong... oops
Sorry

The heat shield does guide the air flow when the fan is on.

yes this answers my question. I thought it had more to do with cooling then heat shield. its a little big for my taste, kind of takes away from the engine. but i will have to live with it .

I just got this SS Polished Heat Shield in the mail today from Morgan West. I've also ordered a S&S stealth air cleaner assembly to tart up that area a bit
Now if I only had a car to put it on......

I did the same too...ordered parts before getting my m3w... See my thread (very excited) The polished heat shield doesnt look right, how about cutting some of the factory heat shield so the polish cover covers it all...just a thought
