You may remember the Fairport Convention version of the trad ballad Tam Lin, which was in 13/4 time signature. Even my daughter (degree in jazz performance, thus fairly eclectic) thought that the Fairport version was not terribly listener-friendly.

So, for anybody who struggled with the excesses of folk rock in the late 60s/early 70s, I came across this quite enchanting version of "Tam Lin" today. It is beautifully performed, and equally beautifully recorded and filmed.

Enjoy, and please feel free to follow with your own particular favourites - any genre (though I do struggle a tad with modern freeform jazz, which I have heard described as "Burning Petshop Music")

Rodriguez try this out, an unknown artist in early 70s never made any money in USA, but was huge in SA and did not know it. Just watched the film Searching for Sugar Man about his life which won an Oscar. Brilliant songs.

Hi Adrian

Thanks for the post - this was yet another musical dimension which I knew nothing about, and part of the purpose of my post was to increase the span of my musical experience.

I hope others might also share contributions; I know everybody won't like everything, but developing an appreciation of different genres is soooo worthwhile - and it seems a topic which should be relatively safe from fish jokes, too.....

Dave

Talking music, did anyone see last weekends country file? The bottle blond woman on there ( Ellie?) sang a few bars and had a really good voice, good enough to have a career singing.

Yes, noted. She's a real action woman and has been doing a spin- off with 'Adam the farmers son' on beauty spots in the UK. Doing quite a mileage on a bike in doing so.
