The only time I've grounded so far with the Roadster was in the British Legion Car Park at Bourton on the Water where there is a deceptively high full width extended hump, and when I came off it at car park speed, I took a knock and scrape, which luckily didn't do any damage.

You can get stuck on the gearbox crossmember because its an inverted U - Keith at BHM suggests a steel cover plate over the lowest point - this will reduce clearance by the thickness of the metal but present a flat profile instead of the inverted U. Not necessary on 3.0 Roadsters because as has been said, the sump and bellhousing are both lower than the crossmember.

Dave, I managed to get the cross member stuck in a gap on the ramp of a Lake Como ferry. That was interesting to say the least.

Basically the problem with Plus 4 ride height, and to a lesser degree Roadster (without considering the sump problem), is the tyre choices made by Morgan. To quote an ealier post of mine:


If you are worried about ground clearance, the best choices for a Plus 4 would be the narrow bodied version with 4/4 wheels and tyres followed by 195/65 R15 tyres if the standard width body. The Roadster would be better fitted with 205/65 R15 tyres which would also allow a 4/4 wheel and tyre to be used as a "space saver" spare.

Last year I grounded the Plus8.
We were on Cefn Bryn on Gower near Arthur's Stone and King Arthur Hotel.
The cross member was on a large stone. I had to get under to remove it, luckily it was loose enough.
As for speed bumps.....
I wonder if there is a spec for their size/profile. They are either preformed and bolted down or just a mound of ashphalt of varying shape and size.
There are far too many now. A mate has noticed having to change more springs on cars over recent years as their numbers increased.

Just been out to measure clearance on the +4 - best I can get is approx. 95 mm to the cross-member, approx. 100 mm to the bottom of the thread of the gearbox mounting bolts, approx. 105 mm to the bottom of bell housing and approx. 111 mm to the bottom of the forward exhaust mounting bolts.

From the snappily titled 'The Highways (Road Humps) Regulations 1999' it seems to me that road humps should be no less than 25mm or more than 100 mm high. This makes the ground clearance of my +4 very tight indeed even on correctly installed humps.

I'm sure some humps are more than 100 mm though ....

Unless you are extremely slim or have very long arms, how on earth did you manage to measure those?

The Poadster, before fitting the MulFab sump, was 83mm...

The Plus 8 is exactly 100mm on its 19" wheels with 35% profile tyres and the sump is steel, not cast alloy.
It is, after 18500 miles, unmarked. (Unless the factory replaced it before sale....)
