I now have a small stone chip in the top righthand side of my windscreen outside of the swept area.

Has anyone ever had a repair done on these & does it work?

Any idea who could replace it in thwe Bucks area?

I had one done by Autoglass when in the UK on my screen in the Saab in a similar sounding area. Took about 20 mins if I recall correctly and that was it - they took my registration and insurance company details. Simples.

If it can't be repaired John, have a chat with Allon White...they may have the glass in stock. Normally you have to have the whole thing replaced as the factory won't supply just the glass....probably too fragile!

I've had two of these repairs done on my Tranny van (also a heated screen). It was very quick, cost me nothing (the insurance paid, no effect on NCB) and barely noticeable once the repair was complete.

I have repaired 4 separate small chips on my cars before using a kit from halfords.
The tip is to drill, yes drill the centre of the chip to release the pressure, and then to use the glue as directed.
Drilling is done by using a tiny drill bit and using your fingers twist the bit to make a hole in the front piece of laminated glass. Be very careful and take your time.

Do the drilling sooner rather than later or you may find the chip becomes a crack.
The worst you can do is to cause a crack and you have to get the windscreen replaced anyway.

Yes had a repair done at one of those "free" windscreen repairers often found at shopping centers on my 2014 4/4 heated screen

couldn't be bothered with insurance..paid 20 quid cash to guy...20 mins excellent job.
Most of these guys operate a franchise and are self employed so happy to do a few cash jobs.

That is what I did years ago when it first happened. I watched the 18 year old doing it, that is where I picked up the tip about drilling the hole.
Also, super glue will not give a reliable fix, you need to use the proper windscreen glue that comes in the kit.

A few points; apologies for the chronology, it's just easier to reference:

1. Laminated glass is not repaired with any kind of glue.

2. The chances are, that anyone charging 20-quid can't be taking the job seriously. Whilst some repairs are much easier than others, an accomplished and experienced repairer - doing the job correctly - will not be giving it away like that. Not in my opinion.

3. There is a huge misconception on what a good repair is. So many 'incomplete', or poorly finished repairs are being presented/sold as good or acceptable.

4. Drilling requires training. if you don't know which way to drill, how deep - or at what angle - to drill, or if you should be drilling at all, DO NOT use a drill on your windscreen.
